Barney’s musical journey began early, learning piano at the age of six before expanding into multiple instruments. After an initial (and ultimately short-lived) attempt to study Physics at university, he returned home to pursue Music Production, where his focus gradually shifted towards artist and commercial work. His entry into production music came organically when songwriter friends invited him to produce an artist-in-residence EP, a project that sparked a growing passion for the format and led him to write more extensively for sync and media.

What Barney enjoys most about production music is the creative freedom it offers. Without the pressure of maintaining a singular “artist brand,” he’s able to explore a wide range of styles while keeping the practical needs of editors front of mind. That balance between experimentation and function helps streamline creative decisions and makes collaboration especially rewarding.

Barney’s recent highlights include his first notable placement on Love Island USA, alongside a nomination in the Folk category at the 2023 Production Music Awards, reflecting his growing presence in the production music world.

A rhythm-led project built around glitchy polyrhythms, where texture, pulse and emotional impact are driven by bold, experimental use of rhythm.
