MediaTracks are approachable, friendly and honest. At the heart of the company, there is a real care for the music and the composers.

From feature films and documentaries to live events, Helen Lyon is a versatile composer who can turn her hand to a wide range of projects.

Helen has loved music for as long as she can remember. From her mum playing Maria Callas LPs to get her out of bed, to the years of youth orchestras and choirs, it was always a huge part of her life. She took up piano aged five, and violin aged eight, before going on to get a degree in Music from the University of Manchester.

After initially starting her career in music education, Helen became a freelance composer in 2017. Since then, she’s worked on a variety of short films and documentaries, working regularly to picture and editing music to film. She has also been commissioned to carry out projects for live events, including writing a vocal piece for primary schools for ‘The Big Sing’ to commemorate the Queen’s Jubilee in June 2022. Alongside composing, Helen continues to perform as a violinist, pianist and singer, and released her first solo album, Aftermath, in 2021. She collaborates and composes regularly with guitarist John Maycraft.

Helen joined the production music world relatively recently and enjoys the flexibility and creative freedom it brings. She writes for digital and acoustic instruments, as well as vocals. Her first project for MediaTracks will be an a capella vocal album, with lots more in store after that.

When she’s not busy working, Helen is a keen runner and completed her first half marathon in 2021. She also has 3 children who keep her very busy!
